Under udgravningen af et gammelt kloster finder to forskere en indgang til et kæmpe underjordisk hulesystem. De allierer sig med en gruppe professionelle eventyrere og begiver sig ned i mørket for at udforske de store grotter. Da ekspeditionens leder pludselig forsvinder, beslutter resten af gruppen at gå dybere ned i hulesystemet, for at finde ham. Men det skulle de aldrig have gjort.
