De jonge Chungneijang Kom vindt een bokshandschoen in het wrak na een vliegtuigongeluk in Kangathei, Manipur en wordt er meteen aan gehecht, tot grote ergernis van haar vader Tonpa. Chungneijang groeit uit tot een strijdlustige tiener en belandt in een sportschool waar ze indruk maakt op coach M. Narjit Singh. Ze wordt al snel een van India's vooraanstaande vrouwelijke boksers onder de naam "MC Mary Kom" en maakt kennis met de voetballer Onler.
