干劲十足的新人女刑警牧野日和（高畑充希饰），因某案件结识了住在退休警官专用“共享住房”——“警察之家”的人们。这是一些年事已高、病痛缠身的大叔，但他们作为前警官，却拥有出类技萃的能力和广博的知识。他们和和美美地生活在“警官之家”。在这里当杂役的夏目惣一郎（西岛秀俊饰）两年前还是警视厅搜查一科的能干刑警。管家高平厚彦从在职时就从事事务性工作。白衣绅士藤堂雅人原来是在科学搜查研究科工作的博士。原地方警署刑警迫田保一退休，妻子就提出了离婚。这里的房东是满头白发、笑容可掬的好好先生伊达有嗣。他们虽然退休，眼花腰痛，但在与疾病斗争的同时，从来没忘记过当警察的时代。以牧野来访为契机，他们再次燃烧起了调查案件的热情。在这些大叔之中，唯有当刑警时曾解决过诸多疑案的夏目对查案不那么热心，他不太情愿地与无论如何都要察明案件真相的牧野组成了搭档
